MODE Developer Console

The MODE Console is the primary interface that developers use to set up and manage their products, test and debug their firmware and apps, and manage team members. Our goal was to create a scalable design system that can support thousands of devices/users and new features

Role:
Product Designer - discovery, research, design, branding

Team:

Ethan Kan, Naoki Takano, Gaku Ueda - engineering

Background:

Developers want platforms that can help them build their products in the shortest amount of time.

Many smart product platforms had dauntingly high learning curves, specific hardware that our customers were forced to incorporate, or were difficult to navigate. We wanted to give our users more freedom and flexibility, as a plug-and-play option.

How it works

The MODE cloud platform is the central hub for all smart product commands.

Whenever a user wants to control a smart product, like a lightbulb in their smart home, they use an app to control when the light turns on. The app sends the “on” signals to the MODE cloud, which then sends another signal to the lightbulb to turn on. All signals are routed through the MODE cloud.

When developers want to release updates to the app or to the device, they will do so through the MODE cloud

Vision

One place to monitor and mange all device and customer connectivity

We wanted to build a full service platform for smart product companies to use while handling how they send signals to their products. Our target users are not only developers sending software updates to their products, but also support agents who were looking to solve connection problems.
